Foot Reflexology

What Is Foot Reflexology?

jtw-foot-reflex1Foot Reflexology is a method for activating the healing powers of the body. It is both old and new. From ancient texts, illustrations, and artefacts, we know that the early Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians and Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health. Today many of these same techniques have been developed into a modern scientific method called reflexology. What joins the ancients with the moderns is the long-established principle that there are energy zones that run throughout the body and reflex areas in the feet that correspond to all the major organs, glands and body parts.

Reflexology yields the best results when the reflexologist works with dedication, patience, and focused intention and, above all, loving care.

What Reflexology Is and is Not

Reflexology is a safe, effective and non-invasive way to better health in general, being both remedial and preventative. Foot Reflexology is not a foot massage. It works with subtle energy flows, revitalizing the body, encouraging the natural internal healing mechanisms of the body. It does not treat the illness but the person in a holistic way.

The Benefits of Foot Reflexology

Reflexology cause the muscles to relax, physical tension to be released and the nervous system to function normally. This may have a beneficial effect on all the other systems of the body and the way in which they function (circulatory, hormonal, respiratory, lymphatic), overall wellness, and improved mental health.

Most importantly, reflexology may re-energise someone suffering from stress, as it helps to remove blockages in the energy flowing around the body, thus improving the client’s own energy levels. The client may feel uplifted and calmer.

Some of the benefits of those undergoing reflexology treatments may experienced:

  • Improved blood flow
  • Relaxation and stress relief
  • Using it as a complement to cancer care
  • Pain reduction

What To Expect In Treatment

A full medical case history will be taken at your first appointment to establish any past medical conditions together with any current symptoms. An analysis of your lifestyle including diet and exercise will also be taken into account. All the information provided is strictly confidential.

Your Foot Reflexology treatment starts with a warm feet bath; I will then take you to a reclining or lying down couch and I will cover you with a beautiful sheet and a warm blanket to ensure you are warm enough throughout the treatment. Then I will use relaxing massage techniques on both feet to prepare and relax them and I will start working with my thumbs and fingers on the reflex points of each system in the body. The reflexology treatment will end with a relaxing foot massage. Pressure is usually firm as this is a therapeutic treatment so there is no need to worry if you tend to be ticklish!
